Holocaust Ambassador Conference 2017
On 4th July 2017 Sheringham Sixth Formers participated in this year’s prestigious Holocaust Educational Trust Ambassador Conference in London.
Laura Askew, Erin Buttifant, Anna Brady, and Ben Candlish had an emotionally draining, but very interesting time.
Ben writes: “I very much enjoyed attending the Conference. It was humbling and inspiring all at the same time. Having visited Auschwitz earlier in the year with The Holocaust Education Trust, this conference raised my levels of awareness further of the horrific events of the Holocaust. Listening to the testimony of Harry Spiro was especially moving as he reflected on his experiences and losses at Buchenwald Concentration Camp. I am now passionate about passing on the memory of the Holocaust, remembering the 6 million people murdered, and preserving their legacy, so that this devastation and meaningless bloodshed is not repeated by future generations.”
Erin adds: “I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to attend the Conference. I use the word ‘fortunate’ because despite having to wake up at 3am to travel to the Conference, I have heard stories from Holocaust survivors that I will never forget, stories that have inspired a message not of revenge or hatred, but one of hope for a peaceful future, one that we can achieve by defending the truth and standing up to antisemitism and prejudice in all its forms.”
