Cross Country Success

Finlay pictured at the showground with his medal!

After a week of hard running in P.E. lessons with all students in years 7-10 completing both a cross country race and an endurance fitness test, 35 students went to North Walsham School for the regional cross country trials. The top 10 athletes in each race qualified to run for North Norfolk at the Royal Showground on 24th January. Despite some of our students suffering from illness and being unable to attend, we were well represented and had some fantastic results on the day. Year 7 students Martha Shawyer and Nathan Hutchings finished their races in a brilliant 21st and 19th respectively, they certainly have a bright athletic future ahead of them! Tom Muckley from Year 9 improved on last year’s result and came in an excellent 21st place, showing what a wonderful distance athlete he is. The best result of the day was saved for the last race, with Finlay Swanson of Year 12 who has improved his result at the finals year on year. This year he finished 3rd in Norfolk, despite running against students a year older than him. He now qualifies to run for Norfolk in an Eastern Counties event in Northampton on 4th February. Huge congratulations to Finlay who has trained incredibly hard to achieve this!
